Summary

Composed in 1893 just after the installation of the Śiva Temple at Kolattukara near Trivandrum. This was written at the request of the devotees who had gathered there. Madanartta is the metre of this Malayalam work. ‘Kolatira' is the Sanskrit equivalent to ‘Kolattukara’, the Malayalam name of a place near Trivandrum, where the Guru installed the image of Śiva in a newly built temple.

കാലശ്രയമെന്നായണയുന്നോർക്കനുകൂലൻ
ഫാലാക്ഷനധർമിഷ്ഠരിലേറ്റം പ്രതികൂലൻ
പാലിക്കണമെന്നെപ്പരിചോടിന്നു കൂളത്തൂർ
കോലത്തുകരക്കോവിലിൽ വാഴും പരമേശൻ.

Transliteration
Kāla caudrayamennāyaṇayunnōr‍kkanukūlan
Phālākṣanadharmiṣṭharilēṟṟaṃ pratikūlan
Pālikkaṇamennepparicōṭinnu kūḷattūr‍
Kōlattukarakkōvilil‍ vāḻuṃ Paramēśan‍.

Meaning
Considerate always to those
Who approach, treating you
As the one on whom even Time depends;
And unfavourable to the unrighteous
Are you, the one of fore-head-eye.
Please protect me properly,
O the Supreme Lord
Residing at the
Kōlattukara Temple.
