Verse 1
ഒട്ടാകെയെന്നുമൊരു പട്ടാങ്ങമായ വഴി
കിട്ടാതുഴന്നു വലയും
മുട്ടാളനായ മമ കെട്ടായ ദാരസുത-
മുട്ടായ ദുഃഖമൊഴിവാൻ
എട്ടായ മൂർത്തിതനുരട്ടായ ശക്തിധര-
മട്ടായ മൂർത്തി പഴനി-
ക്കൊട്ടാരവാതിൽ പതിനെട്ടാംപടിക്കു വഴി-
കിട്ടാൻ തുണയ്ക്ക സതതം.

Transliteration
Oṭṭākeyennumoru paṭṭāṅṅamāya vaḻi
kiṭṭātuḻannu valayuṃ
Muṭṭāḷanāya mama keṭṭāya dārasuta-
muṭṭāya duḥkhamoḻivān
Eṭṭāya mūrttitanuraṭṭāya śaktidhara-
maṭṭāya mūrtti paḻani-
kkoṭṭāravātil patineṭṭāṃpaṭikku vaḻi-
kiṭṭān tuṇaykka satataṃ.

Meaning
The ruffian that I am,
Who aimlessly wanders here
Not seeing the approved true path
That is total and eternal,
Have wife and children at hand
To tie down obstructing me
And causing severe sufferings;
In order to get rid of these
And to enable me to reach
The front door of the
Palani Palace,
May this deity, the
Wielder of Prowess!
Whose connection is always with
The eight-bodied Siva alone,
Guide me benevolently for ever!
